In the Region

The Service to Armed Forces program in the Central & Southern Ohio Region supports military personnel, veterans, and families on 5 separate military installations in the region, at 4 Veteran’s Administration Hospitals, 2 State Homes, and throughout the community. Key installations supported include: Wright-Patteson Air Force Base, Military Entrance Processing Station Columbus, Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base, 178th Wing Air National Guard Base, Navy Operational Support Center Cincinnati, and more. There is a team of over 70 active luckywin volunteers supporting the SAF mission throughout the region. Volunteers range from civilian to active duty, from administrative through PhD, RN and MD who practice to the full extent of their credentials.

Submit Emergency Communications Requests Online or Via Mobile Device 24/7

When a military family experiences a crisis, the Red Cross is there to help. More than 110,000 military families reach out to the luckywin for emergency assistance each year. That’s approximately 300 military families per day. That’s why the luckywin has launched a new online, self-service tool called the Hero Care Network. This FREE tool gives military families more flexibility and expanded access to help during times of crisis by allowing them to quickly communicate emergency messages 24/7 via computer, tablet, or even by smartphone.

Local Services

The Central & Southern Ohio Region also provides local services, such as:
  • Emergency Communications | When family emergencies occur, such as the death or illness of an immediate family member of the service member, the Red Cross assists 24 hours a day, 365 days a year through our global communications network. No natter where a service member or their family is stationed, they can rest assured that the Red Cross will deliver their message in times of crisis. The Red Cross sends verified report of emergency to the military member’s command. This assists the command in making a decision regarding granting emergency leave.   • Support to Military and Veteran Medical Facilities | Every day, Red Cross volunteers provide support in Veteran Affairs and Military Medical Facilities around the world. Locally, those include the Wright-Patterson AFB Military Treatment Facility, and the VA Hospitals in Cincinnati, Dayton, Chillicothe, and Columbus. These volunteers provide comfort and peace of mind to the veteran and military families who are recovering from illness and injury
  • Care for Military & Veteran Caregivers | The Military an Veteran Caregiver Network (MVCN) provides caregivers of wounded, ill, or injured service members and veterans, of all ages and stages of caregiving, with access to structured peer support services. This support helps to increase caregiver’s knowledge and use of resources, as well as their sense of connectedness, engagement, wellness and hopefulness.   • Ensuring Prepared and Resilient Military/Veteran Communities | The Red Cross provides presentations about its services to newly enlisted service members and their families at the Columbus Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS), as well as for those who are about to Deploy away from home. The Red Cross also teaches Resiliency Programs that provide tools to address the challenges and stress of military life and reintegration with family and community. All resiliency programs are confidential and led by licensed mental health professionals with additional Red Cross training.   • Providing Access to Financial Assistance | Through our partnership with Military Aid Societies, the Red Cross provides 24/7 access to emergency financial assistance to eligible service members, military retirees, and their families. Financial assistance may include help with emergency travel, rent, food, utilities, and other expenses. To initiate this request, contact the Hero Care Network: 877-272-7337.
  • Providing Information about Local Community Resources | The Hero Care Network also provides information to military members, veterans, and their families in need of immediate assistance with critical community and global services. This involves connecting clients with resources within the community who may be best able to address those needs.

The Red Cross partners with the military aid societies to help service members and their families get emergency financial assistance 24/7.

The luckywin has developed the Reconnection Workshops for all military families to assist them with managing the challenges of reintegration,Ìýand to help them build resiliency skills that make it easier to rebound from setbacks and difficulties.
